Who We Are

We are the Bell Gardens Police Officers Association (BGPOA). We are made up of men and women who serve as police officers, sergeants and dispatchers for the Bell Gardens Police Department. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

The BGPOA was first established in 1971 with no more than 25 officers and sergeants. With time, the association grew with the addition of dispatchers and now have over 45 members.

The BGPOA was created to ensure the protection and preservation of peace officer rights. One of our primary focus is to negotiate the wages, benefits and working conditions for our members. Our goal is to provide a positive influence in every aspect of our member’s professional life while creating a fun but safe working environment.

As the role of the police officer has changed over the years, so has the role of the Association. Our goal is to support our citizens through charitable donations and community outreach. In keeping with our long history of helping our members with catastrophic needs, the Association hosts charitable events such as our annual Golf and Softball Tournaments. Many surrounding police departments and businesses attend these events as participants or sponsors.

We have given over $1,000 dollars of Toys-R-Us gift cards yearly to randomly select low income families who cannot afford toys for their children. Every year, we partake in the ‘Adopt a Family’ program where the Association adopts a family for Christmas and donates gifts for the entire family. In the past, the BGPOA has held a Toy Drive where citizens from the community donate a toy. We then donate all the toys to either a Church or charitable organization. The Association has also donated to charities and to our local high school.

The Association has always been active in the community with youth organizations and continues to expand its role. The Bell Gardens Police Explorer post is one of those programs that the Association helps with. This program is funded by community support along with dedicated members of the BGPOA.

The BGPOA is committed to partnering with our community, businesses and city leaders to make the City of Bell Gardens a safe and great city to live, work, and raise a family.
